Episode 2005: Now I Am Become Darth

One response to a PC drawing attention to themself is to have an NPC draw even more attention.

The basic principle is to amplify whatever the players do. Have your NPCs take leads from the heroes. If the PCs speak in hushed tones, then of course an NPC should follow suit. But if a PC doesn't seem to care, then the NPC can either sensibly go into self-preservation mode and try to hush them up... or they could decide that the hero knows what they're doing and just go along for the ride. What would be more entertaining?

Uhhhhh... aaaaalllright then. I'm not sure what I was expecting for “Darth” Kanata but this critter certainly wasn't it. He certainly has the most unique set of glasses I've ever seen, which I suppose fits the fantastic alien feel of Star Wars. Seriously, those glasses are like a pair of headphones twisted around to go over the eyes while still being headphones.

Chewbacca might have also mentioned “short” as part of the description, but I guess everyone’s short in comparison. Out of all the characters in all the movies so far, I think Kanata is only taller than astromech droids, the jawas, most of the ewoks, and Yoda. The spray-tan colored skin doesn't help with a healthy appearance neither. I almost thought it was an artifact of the lighting until the last panel.

This must have been such an odd character to have pop up in the movie. Finn looks somewhat concerned about Kanata as well. Might be due to him being a traitor, or perhaps he’s just been figuratively sheltered as a part of the First Order. This would be quite the day Finn’s gone through if so, going from only humans in uniforms to multitudes of alien beings. At least Kanata doesn’t seem like he’s immediately hostile!
